This presentation is a big one. If it goes well, the win could be huge. If it doesn’t, the loss is equally big. Perhaps, due to budget or time constraints, you need to do a presentation yourself. If this is the case, you can’t skimp on quality or professionalism.
Criteria for an effective presentation include:
- A branded image that tells your customer who you are and that you are committed.
- Enhanced content strategy and flow that takes users on a “learning path” toward the goal.
- Creative graphics and visuals that are not just pretty pictures but that tell the story visually and verbally.
- Exciting collaterals and leave-behind materials.
- Messages delivered in ways that improve their chances of being remembered.
Some tips for getting top results on your own:
Step 1 - Get rid of those nasty standard PowerPoint templates
They are not original; everybody—I mean everybody!—uses them.
Step 2 - Create your own master templates that express your brand through colors, logo, images, etc.
- Create both the title master and the slide master
- Include company name/logo on both slides
- Include copyright information at the bottom on the slide template
- Include slide number after copyright information
Step 3 - Avoid using dark backgrounds
- Expensive to print
- Use too much ink
- Hard to see unless room is dark
Step 4 - Pick your key colors
- Use three or four main colors
- Know what your colors are and stick with them
Step 5 - Formatting
- Other than a title slide and maybe a main topic slide, the format should hold constant between different slides
- Keep the placement of the company name/logo, title, and content consistent so that between slide transitions things don't bounce around
The stakes can be high when you’re making a presentation and it’s important to consider the pros and cons of outsourcing your materials – or at least a part of them. But if you can’t swing it now, be sure your homegrown work makes ‘em say WOW!
