Act Quick Before Your Company Name Slips

by SmartSamantha

So you’ve brainstormed and decided on your new company name, asking friends and family how they like it.  Now act quick - before one of them unsuspectingly slips to a competitor.

Or someone else might be brainstorming at the same time…and come up with the same name.  This is especially true if the product or service is in vogue, like green products.  In emerging and fast-changing markets, just a few weeks’ delay can mean losing your prized new name.

For instance, not long ago I received a call from someone telling me I had their domain name and needed to release it to them!  Well, the voice was shaky and the tone naïve, so I asked her what she meant.  It turns out that she had talked to a domain search firm just a few months before, and they told her that her desired domain name was available.  In those same months, I named my firm one of my products the same as her desired domain name. But I did a domain name search, saw no others, and secured the rights.

Was it right I turned down this woman’s request?  Yes!  I had done my search and acted quickly.  Don’t let that prized name slip away – click and buy your company domain name for your sprouting idea (with your parents permission of course.)  Even if you make changes later, the most you’ll be out is a couple of bucks.
